Friends of Jewish Renewal in Poland will host the chair of Beit Trojmiasto Dr. Jan Miklas-Frankowski at Temple Beth Shalom of Long Beach on Shabbat, December 13 & 14. On Shabbat afternoon, Professor Miklas-Frankowski will address topics that focus on the image of Poland in the eyes of American Jews. Recent films such as Jesse Eisenberg’s “A Real Pain” and “Treasure” starring Lena Dunham will be referenced. Dr. Miklas-Frankowski’s work in journalism includes many topics in popular culture. Temple Beth Shalom of Long Beach is led by Rabbi Menachem Mirski. Temple Beth Shalom is located at 3635 Elm in Long Beach, CA.

TEMPLE BETH ISRAEL & FRIENDS OF JEWISH RENEWAL IN POLAND
Dr. Jan Miklas-Frankowski will visit Temple Beth Israel of Pomona on December 15 at 9 a.m. The morning includes conversation about pop culture but also a celebration of the long-term twinning relationship of Beit Polska and Beth Israel. At 10 a.m. the community will join in the webinar on Jan Grabowski’s Whitewash: Poland and The Jews. Temple Beth Israel is located at 3033 North Towne Avenue in Pomona.
Jan Miklas-Frankowski is the chair of Beit Trojmiasto (BT) since 2022. He was a member of the board of BT 2018-2021. He is an assistant professor at the Institute of Media, Journalism and Communication; Faculty of Social Sciences; University of Gdansk. His main area of research includes contemporary Polish reportage and literature with a particular interest in Polish-Jewish issues, the Holocaust representations and relations between literary reportage, history and memory, as well as Polish Gonzo and the work of Czesław Miłosz and Olga Tokarczuk.
Oliwa (a district of Gdańsk where Beit Trójmiasto is located) is his place in the world — his family has been living here for three generations. He lives here now with his wife Magdalena, 3 sons (Filip, Julian and Dawid), white Swiss shepherd and 4 cats. He is a player of a handball University team. He loves to run across Oliwa‘s hills with his dog Bisia and plays the acoustic guitar.

Meet – Greet – Talk with Jan Miklas-Frankowski, Chair of Beit Trojmiasto, a Polish Progressive Congregation, near Gdansk, Poland
We will discuss Jewish related events in Gdansk and Poland. Temple Beth Israel has a twinning relationship with the congregation in Warsaw, Poland and the national Progressive Jewish movement called Beit Polska.

The Sunday program is titled Whitewash, by Professor Grabowski who wrote about Poles denying their participation in World War II. Professor Kassow will accompany the program in a conversational format.
