Beit Polska and the European Union for Progressive Judaism Welcomes 16 people!
A Celebration of Conversion in Krakow! Beit Polska and the European Union for Progressive Judaism welcomes 16 people!
Following two days of individual meetings, the European Union for Progressive Judaism concluded its Beit Din in Krakow on Monday May 26. The Beit Din was busy interviewing candidates for conversion Sunday afternoon and all day on Monday. After the decision of the Beit Din, the candidates visited the mikvah in Crakow. All sixteen candidates for conversion were accepted into the Jewish community. The Temple Synagogue in Cracow dates from 1862 and was remodeled and expanded in 1868, 1893 and in 1924 signaling the popularity of the Progressive movement in Polish Jewish life before World War II.
All sixteen candidates went through a rigorous study period, and the event was concluded with a l’haim. Beit Polska was proud to be a co-sponsor of this event. Rabbi Gil Nativ of Beit Warszawa was the teacher and sponsor of 11 of the candidates. According to the European Union for Progressive Judaism’s procedures, the sponsoring rabbi is not part of the Beit Din.

Rabbi Jerrold Goldstein says
Hurrah for the EUPJ Bet Din action. The conversion of these 16 candidates is positive evidence of impressive Jewish renewal in Poland. Keep up the good work. God bless the 16 new Jews in Poland! May their lives be greatly enriched by the decisions they have made to join officially with the Jewish community.
