Beit Polska is proud to support a new group emerging in Zielona Gora, Poland. Pictured are the preparations for a Shabbat. We are very glad to report that despite the summer holidays the community event was well attended. Zielona Gora (Greenberg, Green Mountain) is in the western regions of Poland. The community has begun to train its future prayer leaders at the Lay cantors program conducted by Beit Polska under the direction of Hazzan Michael Stein. There are currently three communities with synagogues in the Beit Polska communities — Beit Warszawa, Beit Trojmiasto, and Beit Konstancin. A fourth synagogue Beit Centrum applied for membership in the Polish Progressive Jewish communities. There are another four communities in development in Lodz, Poznan, Wroclaw and Zielona Gora. Progressive Judaism began in Poland in 1802 and at the eve of World War II numbered approximately ten per cent of Polish Jewry. The Polish Progressive Jewish community emerged again in 1995. Beit Polska is affiliated with the World/European Union for Progressive Judaism.
Hania and her daughter, Diana organized the Shabbat celebration in Zielona Gora. Thanks to both of them for efforts. Hania is one of the students in the lay cantor’s program.
